چکیده
Abstract Background HIV-associated wasting (i.e., progressive, involuntary weight loss with both fat and lean tissue loss; HIVAW) is an under-appreciated AIDS-defining illness; the 2012-2018 period prevalence was reported as 18% in a recent claims study United States. We aimed to assess association between incident HIVAW/low all-cause mortality era of modern combination antiretroviral therapy (ART). Methods In Observational Pharmaco-Epidemiology Research & Analysis (OPERA®) cohort, PWH without (a) any prior weight, (b) malignancy within 3 years, (c) opportunistic infection 1 year who were active care 2016 2020 followed through death, follow-up, or end (31OCT2021). included low BMI/underweight diagnosis (ICD codes, title search) BMI < 20 kg/m2. Hazard ratios (HR) 95% confidence intervals (CI) for time-dependent (exposure) (outcome) estimated extended Cox regression models. The adjusted model age at baseline, race, ethnicity, covariates (log10 viral load, Veterans Aging Cohort Study [VACS] Mortality Index score). Viral load VACS score surrogate markers ART use comorbidities, respectively. Linear quadratic terms continuous variables included. Results Of 67,119 OPERA®, 62,314 (93%) had non-missing covariate data models; baseline characteristics did not differ full populations (Table 1). Over median follow-up 45 months (interquartile range: 27, 65), there 4,755 (8%) cases 1,354 (2%) deaths. model, experienced significantly increased risk death over than those experience (HR: 1.96; CI: 1.68, 2.27) 2). Conclusion this analysis care, associated twice era. Particular attention needs be paid among restore health potentially reduce death. Disclosures Rachel P. Association between physical performance and all-cause mortality in CKD.
In older adults, measurements of physical performance assess physical function and associate with mortality and disability. Muscle wasting and diminished physical performance often accompany CKD, resembling physiologic aging, but whether physical performance associates with clinical outcome in CKD is unknown. We evaluated 385 ambulatory, stroke-free participants with stage 2-4 CKD enrolled in c...
متن کاملWeight History and All-Cause and Cause-Specific Mortality in Three Prospective Cohort Studies.
Background The relationship between body mass index (BMI) and mortality is controversial. Objective To investigate the relationship between maximum BMI over 16 years and subsequent mortality. Design 3 prospective cohort studies. Setting Nurses' Health Study I and II and Health Professionals Follow-Up Study. Participants 225 072 men and women with 32 571 deaths observed over a mean of 12...
متن کاملAssociation Between Interstitial Lung Abnormalities and All-Cause Mortality.
IMPORTANCE Interstitial lung abnormalities have been associated with lower 6-minute walk distance, diffusion capacity for carbon monoxide, and total lung capacity. However, to our knowledge, an association with mortality has not been previously investigated. OBJECTIVE To investigate whether interstitial lung abnormalities are associated with increased mortality. DESIGN, SETTING, AND POPULAT...
متن کاملAssociation Between Television Viewing Time and All-Cause Mortality: A Meta-Analysis of Cohort Studies.
Findings on the association between television (TV) viewing and all-cause mortality in epidemiologic studies have been inconsistent. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis of data from prospective cohort studies to quantify this association. Relevant articles were identified by searching MEDLINE (PubMed; National Library of Medicine, Bethesda, Maryland) and EMBASE (Elsevier B.V., Amsterdam, th...
متن کاملAssociation between whole grain intake and all-cause mortality: a meta-analysis of cohort studies
Some observational studies have examined the association between dietary whole grain intake and all-cause mortality, but the results were inconclusive. We therefore conducted a meta-analysis to summarize the evidence from cohort studies regarding the association between whole grain intake and all-cause mortality. Pertinent studies were identified by searching PubMed, Embase and Web of Knowledge...
